Before You Go

Before You Go

What to Know Before You Go Rafting or Kayaking

What to Wear: For an exhilarating whitewater rafting experience, make sure you’re dressed appropriately:

  • Opt for river sandals, river shoes, or old tennis shoes that you don’t mind getting wet (paired with a bathing suit and t-shirt).
  • Avoid flip flops—they tend to disappear in the rapids!
  • If you don’t have suitable footwear, don’t worry—we sell river shoes at our store.
  • You won’t need extra clothing on the river; we provide sweaters and ponchos if you get chilly. Plus, there’s no changing area at the river.

What’s Included:

  • Lunch and drinks are part of the package.
  • Vegetarian? We’ve got you covered! Just make sure you add on a vegetarian meal.
  • Suitable for ages 4 and up.
  • No prior rafting experience required.

Trip Details:

  • Arrive at our downtown Banner Elk store either at 11:00 am or 12:00 pm (depending on your chosen trip).
  • Please avoid showing up early.
  • The trip will return between 5:30 and 6:00 pm.
  • Rain or shine, we’re ready to hit the rapids!
  • Fun fact: The temperature where we go rafting is 10 degrees warmer than Banner Elk, and it receives only half the rainfall.

Weather Check:

  • If you’re curious about the weather, check Elizabethton, TN, between 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
