What to Know Before You Go Rafting, Kayaking or Climbing

What to Wear: For an exhilarating whitewater rafting experience, make sure you’re dressed appropriately:

  • Opt for river sandals, river shoes, or old tennis shoes that you don’t mind getting wet (paired with a bathing suit and t-shirt).
  • Avoid flip flops—they tend to disappear in the rapids!
  • If you don’t have suitable footwear, don’t worry—we sell river shoes at our store.
  • You won’t need extra clothing on the river; we provide sweaters and ponchos if you get chilly. Plus, there’s no changing area at the river.

What’s Included:

  • Lunch and drinks are part of the package.
  • Vegetarian? We’ve got you covered! Just let us know about any other special dietary needs.
  • Suitable for ages 4 and up.
  • No prior rafting experience required.

Trip Details:

  • Arrive at our downtown Banner Elk store either at 11:00 am or 12:00 pm (depending on your chosen trip).
  • Please avoid showing up early.
  • The trip will return between 5:30 and 6:00 pm.
  • Rain or shine, we’re ready to hit the rapids!
  • Fun fact: The river temperature is 10 degrees warmer than Banner Elk, and it receives only half the rainfall.

Weather Check:

  • If you’re curious about the weather, check Elizabethton, TN, between 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm.

How to Prep for Rock Climbing and Rappelling

What to Wear: Prepare for an exciting rock climbing lesson and guided adventure with these clothing tips:

  • Wear loose fitting clothing and tennis shoes. We don’t recommend sandals or hiking boots.
  • No experience is necessary.
  • Lunch and drinks are included and there is a vegetarian option (you’re responsible for other special dietary needs).
  • Ages 10 and up.
  • Arrive at our store in downtown Banner Elk at 9:30 am (please don’t show up early).
  • The trip returns between 4:00 and 4:30 pm.
  • Trips go rain or shine.
